Care
Guitar cleaning care – Blackcap guitars are finished with high-grade nitrocellulose lacquer or polyurethane depending on the particular instrument. Cleaning should be done gently with a clean microfiber cloth, either dry or lightly dampened with water. If using a cleaning product, use a guitar-specific product suitable for lacquer and polyurethane, such as: Stewmac ColorTone Clean + Shine. Never apply the cleaning product directly to the instrument; apply the cleaning product to the cloth, and then gently wipe down your instrument. Prior to cleaning, dust off the guitar to ensure there’s no dust or other particles that could be scratched into the surface. Do not use these cleaning products on your fretboard.
Fretboard care - Clean your fretboard with a clean, dry cloth or a soft toothbrush. If you must, use a damp cloth to wipe your fretboard down, but wipe it dry with another clean cloth as you go. You can use extra fine steel wool to remove stubborn grime. Oil your fretboard every six to eight months using a fretboard-specific oil, boiled linseed oil, or mineral oil. There’s no need to overdo it. Wipe a little on, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it off. That simple! You can clean and oil your bridge in the same way.
Humidity and temperatures – For a long-lasting and well-playing instrument, keep your guitar between 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and 45% to 55% humidity. Use a digital humidity gauge to monitor your instrument, and keep it away from fires, heaters, air conditioners, and windows with direct sunlight. When you can, keep your guitar in its case.
